Free Things to Do and See: The Big, Huge, Ginormous List!
You’ve cleaned the whole house, made every meal in your cookbook and finished Netflix, you’ve completed the list of ideas I put together on what to do during Quarantine, and now you’re looking for something more…..
The last few weeks, I’ve been seeing posts all over facebook, twitter, and instagram with so many awesome things to check out for all ages. So I’ve decided to compile some that I found interesting. Museum tours, learning programs, documentaries, and more.
TRAVEL!
A lot of us are under Stay At Home orders, and that is the smartest thing we can do right now. However, you can travel from your computer/phone/tablet/tv. Here are a few field trips you can take from the comfort of you home!
- Cliffs of Moher, Ireland Amazing Sunset Virtual Tour.
- Put on your Mickey Ears and take some Virtual Rides at Disneyland, Disney World and Universal Studios!
- Have you ever been to a National Park? Arts & Culture with Google has set up a site that allows you peek inside with Tours of 5 National Parks!
- Interested in Museums? This site compiled a list of 12 Museum Tours you can take from home from the Guggenheim in New York to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam. Everyone is welcome!
- Google’s Arts & Culture has done it again, check out these Virtual Tours of Stages Around The World, extraordinary!
- Check out multiple exhibits from the Natural History Museum in Washington DC, part of the Smithsonian.
- The Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, California was the residence of Sarah Winchester, widow of William Wirt Winchester, creator of the Winchester firearm. As per wikipedia: “It is a designated California historical landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It is privately owned and serves as a tourist attraction. Since its construction in 1884, the property and mansion were claimed by many to be haunted by the ghosts of those killed with Winchester rifles. ” You can tour the house here for free through April 7th.
- Tours for Yellowstone National Park
- Travel to Space! NASA has images available online from each day of the year from various years from the Hubble Telescope, head here and see What Hubble saw on your birthday!
LEARN!
We could all benefit from some extra education in just about any field, check out the list below to see what interests you, or what its totally new to you that you would’ve never though to try or learn about previously.
- Ever wanted the Rockette Experience? They’re offering free classes every Tuesday and Thursday on Instagram!
- NASA’s Video and Image Library has so many FREEBIES for your eyes.
- Interested in art? Here’s 10 University Art Classes you can take for FREE!
- I LOVE HISTORY!!!! I can’t learn enough about it, especially British Medieval History…. History Extra has some amazing articles for everyone to enjoy. I especially enjoy this article about the fabled King Arthur.

- 48 Languages for you to learn! Download MP3s and LEARN!
- NIKON is offering free online photography classes for all of April!
- Playwritght, Lauren Gunderson offered a free playwriting class called Playwriting Class Part 1, Beginnings and Endings on her Facebook Page.
- London’s famous concert hall, Wigmore Hall, has compiled a list of previously streamed Master classes and performances for you to enjoy and learn.
- Check out Free Code Camp and take the first step to a career in tech, you can learn different computer coding languages and earn certifications to help you land your dream job.
- Class Central has compiled a list of over 400 FREE courses you can take from Ivy League Colleges like Yale, Harvard, University of Pennsylvania, Columbia, Brown, and more. The courses range from Yale’s Introduction to Classical Music to Harvard Medical School’s Best Practices for Biomedical Research Data Management to the University of Pennsylvania’s Ancient Philosophy: Plato & His Predecessors and so many more.
- My favorite YouTube account is Fire of Learning. If reading about history, or taking a course isn’t your preference, he has some amazing documentaries on the history of nations like England and Scotland, languages, names, etc. Check him out!
- Scholastic has curated a free digital learning hub designed to support virtual learning plans: Scholastic Learn At Home allows open access to daily learning journeys divided into four grade spans—Pre-K–K, Grades 1–2, Grades 3–5, and Grades 6–9+, covering ELA, STEM, Science, Social Studies, and Social-Emotional Learning.

- HBO GO and HBO NOW are helping out starting TODAY by allowing those without a subscription to access 39 shows and movies TOTALLY FREE!
- Documentary Heaven is a compilation of documentaries FREE for you to watch any time with almost 40 categories, just about everyone can find something they love! I’m a big History fan and have already found so many to binge!
- Join the Met with nightly Opera streams.
- The Monterey Bay Aquarium has a feed on YouTube that is oddly satisfying of its Jellyfish.
- Looking for movies off the grid? Check out this list of free movies for your enhanced appreciation! I may never leave the house again.
- The Met is streaming its Live in HD series for free, a different show every night.
- Try out a 7 Day Free Trial to Broadway HD and watch your favorite Broadway shows form home!
- The musicians of the Seattle Symphony have volunteered to share free broadcasts on their YouTube and Facebook pages. You can find those links and the schedule here.
- Are you missing baseball like crazy? We are. Have you seen the Ken Burns documentary on baseball? You can check it out for free through PBS.
