Green Smoothie – Packed with Nutrition!
Starting our exploration of Smoothies, I began with ingredients we had in the house already. This Green Smoothie recipe is delicious and packed with nutrition.
*We will not claim that any of the smoothies we post will be the sole reason for any life changing situations. However, they can be added to a healthy diet and exercise regimen to assist in accomplishing your goals.
Explanation of Ingredients
Milk – an incredible source of calcium. Even non dairy/animal based milks like Soy Milk have a great amount of calcium. Calcium as we know is essential for tooth and bone health.
Greek Yogurt – I went with Vanilla for flavor, but use unflavored if you prefer. Greek Yogurt is full of nutrients and good bacteria that aids in digestion. It is also high in protein, vitamin B12, riboflavin (B2), and selenium. Add to that: calcium, phosphorus, zinc, pantothenic acid, vitamin A, and potassium. All things our body needs, B vitamins are a natural energy source as well.
Spinach – Besides being high in fiber which helps with digestion, spinach is full of calcium and vitamins D3 and K, which are great for bone health. Since it doesn’t have an overbearing taste, it can easily be added to many smoothies to give an added benefit without interfering with your senses.
Strawberries and Bananas – Bananas are a great base for many smoothies, not just because of their consistency, but they’re also high in fiber, as are strawberries. Plus strawberries are naturally sweet and add great flavor.
Protein Powder – Getting enough protein helps to reduce your appetite and supports a healthy metabolism.
Honey – A natural sweetener, honey is also rich in magnesium and potassium.
Ice – The ice is used to thicken your smoothie without extra calories. Water in itself is filling and obviously good for you. Ice also reduces the amount of sugar in the final product, since the extra calories can add up quickly.
Put all ingredients in your blender in the order listed, and blend 45-60 seconds or until desired consistency is reached.
Enjoy!
